Using Google News Lab and other tools to cover issues in race and diversity

Part I focuses on finding diverse expert source databases, using Google Scholar to find academic and case law, Google Fact-Check Explorer, MapChecking.com for measuring protest crowd sizes, Google Dataset Search and Public Data Explorers (search and visualize demographic data) and other quick-turn, handy tools. Part II is all about scraping data with Google Sheets and visualizing data in Google Flourish. We’ll analyze and visualize gender and race hiring practices of top tech companies. Participants in the hands-on workshop get a handout with links to tools, examples and training videos to review what we cover in the session.
